Australia - Land Of The Brave

Australia - Land Of The Brave.

I've been living in Australia for most of my life.   My family heritage is rooted in England, Ireland, and America, however my father and mother immigrated to Australia when I was nine years old.

Located in the southern hemisphere, surrounded by oceanic views, it is the sixth largest country in the world.  Known for its diverse geography of deserts, such as  the 'Outback'.  Australia boasts some wonderful tropical rain-forests, mountain ranges, and coastal havens.  The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef, and tourist flock to the northern coast to visit this unique reef system.

Many international visitors come to the southern land to experience the rich culture.  Art , music and literature play a big part of our cultural heritage.  Although many visit Australia because of our Indigenous peoples, and British colonization.  Whatever your reason for being in Australia, it certainly is a vibrant place to be.

Why is Australia the land of the brave?  Well its wildlife leave many in a state of panic.  Most tourists are amused by the unique habitat sharing our landscape, such as Kangaroos, Koalas, Wombats, Snakes, Spiders, crocodile, and Dingoes, just to name some of the most popular sightseer fascination.   It is a known fact that Australia is surrounded by water, and is the world's largest Island.  Sharks, Whales and other sea life  also are a draw for tourists, however locals are also intimidated by what lurks under the ocean flow.

Each year our beaches are a draw card for those seeking relief from the hot, sticky heat.   Locals can be found parking along the golden sands that stretch for miles.   Finding refreshments from local beach cafes, and sitting on grass  adjacent to the sandy belt.    For those brave enough, surfing the waves might be something to try on the eastern, or western coasts of Australia.   Who knows you may even be lucky enough to spot dolphins, turtles as you frolic in the ocean.  Locals love to fish, and fishing from the rocks of the beach can be dangerous.  Locals know the dangers, but tourists are not accustomed to ocean swells, crashing waves, and slippery rock conditions, so read the signs, and don't venture into the unknown.

Australia has some wonderful sunrises and sunsets.  The sky will delight viewers with a color spray of purple, pinks, amber, gold, and turquoise.   The changing colors are mesmerizing and breathtaking.   As the sun rises, many sporting enthusiasts enjoy watching a good competitive game of football, soccer, cricket, tennis, or rugby.  Australia has a successful sporting history, and hosts major international events.  Motor sports is also a big deal in Australia, and draws a huge crowd.

Australia has a variety of climates, which range from tropical temperatures in the northern parts of Australia, and a Mediterranean climate in the south.  Darwin is not for the faint hearted,  with their two distinct weather seasons.  The Wet season is hot and humid, with high rainfall, tropical storms, and cyclones.  The dry season of Darwin is more stable and favorable for outdoor activities.  Regardless of where you choose to live in Australia, or visit, be aware of the conditions and dress appropriately.  The dangers of heat stroke are very real, and can be life threatening.  Water is a vital part of taking care of yourself in the heat, so make sure you are hydrated.  Personal safety is a must when it comes to climate conditions, waiting for the ambush behind the scenes,  are many dangers associated with our weather patterns.  Cyclones can be a real threat to lives and property, and Australia can flood one minute, and be burning a few weeks later.  Bush-fire are a real threat in summer, and lives are lost every year due to a fire outbreak.    Thousands of insurance claims are submitted for loss of property and livestock, so be warned, Australia is for the tough, and brave.

Would you live in Australia?  Personally I would not want to live anywhere else.  The lifestyle is amazing.  The natural landscape is captivating, and scenic views are amazing.  The wildlife though intimidating, is rarely an issue unless you go seeking them out.  Australians do not have kangaroos, emus, or koalas as pets.  We have dwellings, and motor vehicles with air conditioners, heaters etc,  that help with climate controlling our lifestyle.  Who wouldn't want to live on an island I ask?

Are you brave enough to venture to my homeland.

Am I brave?  Not really, I accept Australia for what it is, and appreciate its exceptional qualities.  I also recognize the dangers, and respect them.

Bohemian Lily

I once knew a woman named Lily. She was known far and wide for her free-spirited nature and contagious laughter. Lily's radiant smile was like sunshine on a gloomy day, and her heart was as wild as the untamed forest that bordered the town.

Unlike many others in the conservative town, Lily refused to conform to societal norms and expectations. She had a curiosity that knew no bounds, and she yearned to explore the world beyond the town's borders. Lily's adventurous spirit led her to dream of far-off lands, vibrant cultures, and the mysteries that lay beyond the horizon.  Every morning, she would rise with the sun, her bare feet dancing on dew-kissed grass as she breathed in the crisp morning air. Lily would spend her days wandering through meadows and forests, getting lost in the melodies of birds and the whispers of the wind. She collected stories from the elderly and listened intently to the tales told by travelers passing through, absorbing every bit of knowledge like a sponge.

Lily's home was a small cottage near the riverbank. Its walls adorned with trinkets and souvenirs from places she had never been but hoped to visit one day. The townsfolk, while they admired her spirit, often shook their heads at her dreams, thinking them impossible fantasies.  Lily remained undeterred, for she believed that life was meant to be lived to the fullest. She was an artist, her canvas the world, and her paintbrush the experiences she gathered along her journeys. The more she discovered, the more vibrant her soul became.

As the seasons changed, so did Lily. She learned the art of pottery from a wise old artisan, the joy of dance from a group of gypsies who camped near the river, and the magic of cooking from a kind chef who took her under his wing. Her life was an ever-evolving masterpiece of colors and textures, of laughter and tears, of triumphs and setbacks.  Word of the free-spirited woman spread like wildfire, and people from far-off places sought her out to hear her stories and share their own. She became a beacon of inspiration for those who yearned to break free from the shackles of conformity and embrace their true selves.

One summer's day, a traveler arrived in the town—a young man named Leo. He was intrigued by the tales of the free-spirited woman and sought her out in the meadows where she often lingered. As they spoke, their souls connected like kindred spirits. Leo had a free-spirited heart himself, but he had been afraid to embrace it fully until he met Lily.  Together, they explored the world beyond the town, hand in hand, embarking on adventures that only their wildest dreams could have conjured. Their love for each other mirrored the freedom they cherished, and they realized that life had truly become an enchanting journey when they were together.

As time passed, the town began to change. Lily's spirit had touched the hearts of its inhabitants, and they became more open-minded and accepting. No longer did they view her as an eccentric outsider, but as a wise and cherished member of their community.

Lily and Leo's love story became a legend, passed down through generations, inspiring many to live life with their hearts unchained. The once closed-off town had blossomed into a vibrant hub of diverse experiences and open-mindedness.  And so, the free-spirited woman, Lily, and her adventurous lover, Leo, lived happy and free, wandering the world hand in hand, leaving a trail of laughter and love wherever they went. Their story reminded everyone that life was not meant to be lived within walls and boundaries but was an extraordinary journey to be embraced with open arms and open hearts.

Emu Plague... Emu's Everywhere!

News report of an actual Emu plague

In the quaint town of Houghton, the residents lived peacefully alongside a vast expanse of rolling hills and lush forests. However, their serene existence was about to be disrupted by an unexpected visitor – a peculiar plague of emus.

It all began one fine morning when Farmer Jenkins, a friendly old man who owned a picturesque farm at the outskirts of town, noticed an unusual sight. A small group of emus, with their long legs and distinctive feathers, were grazing peacefully at the edge of his property. At first, he found it amusing and took a few snapshots to show his grandchildren later.

However, as days passed, more and more emus arrived, and their numbers multiplied at an alarming rate. Soon, there were hundreds of emus roaming through the fields, parks, and streets of Houghton.  At first, the townspeople thought it was just a temporary migration, but the emus showed no signs of leaving.

The emu population explosion posed a significant challenge for the town's inhabitants. The large birds were devouring crops, trampling gardens, and causing chaos in the streets. The town's council held emergency meetings, seeking ways to manage the emu influx.

Various solutions were proposed – from building fences to deter the emus from entering the town, to using loud noises to scare them away. None seemed to work, and the emus continued to dominate the landscape.

As the weeks passed, the emu plague began to take a toll on the towns people's spirits. However, amidst the chaos, a young girl named Emily stepped forward with an unconventional idea. She had been observing the emus for some time and noticed a pattern in their behavior.

Emily discovered that the emus were attracted to the abundant food supply in Houghton but were also seeking a sense of safety and community. She suggested that instead of trying to push the emus away, the towns people should learn to coexist with them.

Her proposition was met with skepticism, but Emily was persistent. She proposed creating designated feeding areas for the emus, where they could find enough food without encroaching on farms and gardens. Additionally, she encouraged the residents to understand the emus' needs and habits, promoting peaceful coexistence.

To everyone's surprise, Emily's idea started to work. As the emus found sufficient food sources in the designated areas, they began to stay away from the town's crops and gardens. Emily's compassionate approach not only solved the immediate problem but also brought a sense of wonder and curiosity among the towns people. They began to appreciate the beauty of these magnificent creatures and learn more about their fascinating behavior.

Over time, Houghton became known for its unique bond with the emus. Tourists from neighboring towns and even beyond came to witness the harmony between humans and wildlife. Emily's idea not only saved Houghton from the emu plague but also transformed it into a model town for conservation and coexistence.

And so, the emus of Houghton became a symbol of hope and understanding, teaching everyone the importance of embracing nature's wonders and finding ways to live in harmony with the world around them. From that day on, the town's motto became, "Embrace the Emus, Embrace Nature," reminding everyone to respect all living creatures and cherish the beauty of life's diversity.

An Emu Tale...

In the southern land of Australia, a quaint community of emus lived in harmony, their feathers shimmering in a multitude of vibrant colors. Each emu was known for their unique personalities and talents, and they coexisted peacefully, sharing their skills and resources to flourish together.

One day, a mysterious stranger arrived in South Australia. It was a small, unassuming bird with a rather nondescript appearance. The emus warmly welcomed the newcomer, thinking nothing of it. Little did they know that this seemingly ordinary bird carried a dark secret.

As the days passed, the community began to notice some of their fellow emus falling ill. Their normally bright plumage began to fade, and their once lively eyes grew dull and listless. The strange illness quickly spread, affecting emu after emu. The community was gripped with fear and confusion as they searched for a cause.

The newcomer, who introduced itself as Calumet, seemed to be immune to the plague. Suspicion arose among the emus, as they realized Calumet was the common link between those who had fallen ill. Fearful and desperate, they confronted the stranger, accusing it of being the cause of the affliction.

Calumet, however, denied any involvement in the plague. Instead, it revealed that it had witnessed this peculiar disease before in its travels. The real cause, Calumet explained, was an ancient curse cast upon South Australia centuries ago, lying dormant until now.

To break the curse, Calumet proposed a daunting quest that required the emus to unite their unique abilities. They needed to retrieve three rare feathers from the most elusive and powerful birds in the land. These feathers, when combined, could potentially dispel the plague once and for all.

Despite their initial distrust, the emus realized that they had no other choice but to embark on this journey. They set aside their differences and formed a fellowship, each bringing their skills to the table. There was Elmo, the swift-footed emu who could outpace any predator; Azure, the emu gifted with a captivating song that could soothe the most troubled souls; and Lumina, the emu whose feathers glowed in the dark, providing light in the darkest of times.

Together, they faced numerous trials, from treacherous landscapes to encounters with mythical beasts guarding the precious feathers. The plague continued to ravage Australia, claiming more victims as the days passed. The emus felt the weight of their responsibility and the urgency to save their beloved community.

Finally, after an arduous journey, they acquired the three feathers. Calumet guided them through a powerful ritual, and as the feathers combined their energies, a brilliant light enveloped the land. The curse was broken, and the plague started to recede. The emus celebrated, grateful for the newfound hope.

As the plague waned, Calumet thanked the emus for their courage and determination. With the curse lifted, it revealed its true form: a majestic phoenix. The phoenix explained that it had been bound in the form of a small bird as part of the curse, destined to wander until someone could break the spell.

Having fulfilled its purpose, the phoenix ascended into the sky, its fiery plumage illuminating the heavens. The emus watched in awe and wonder, realizing that sometimes, even in the darkest of times, the strength of unity and the courage to face challenges can lead to extraordinary transformations.

From that day on, Australia thrived, and the emus never forgot the lessons they learned during the Emu Plague. They continued to cherish their diversity, supporting one another through thick and thin, and their peaceful land prospered for generations to come.
